Embracing Sustainability: A Look At Guards London’s Sustainable History

In an era where sustainability has become a global priority, and in an industry plagued by disposable trends and fast fashion practices, we are striving to incorporate eco-friendly practices into our own operations. At Guards London, we want to expand and improve on our own sustainable fashion practice, and spearhead innovative approaches to create fashion that is both stylish and environmentally conscious. Through the use of recycled materials and reclamation of end-of-line fabrics, we have introduced a range of garments that minimize waste and contribute to a greener future.

Spring 2020: Our First Steps

In Spring 2020, Guards London took it’s first leap into sustainable fashion by launching our first clothing lines made from partially-recycled materials. The Hanbury Lightweight Jacket, The Gower Field Jacket, and the Wilson Raincoat were the trailblazers in this collection. By utilizing recycled materials, we tested the market for environmentally conscious customers and our potential to reduce our ecological footprint, and promote a circular economy. These initial releases showcased our ability to combine style, quality, and sustainability seamlessly.

Spring 2022: The Guards Limited Collection

Building on this success, we continued our sustainability journey by introducing the Guards Limited Collection in Spring 2022. This unique range featured seven new, limited-stock styles, many of which were unique among Guards’ past designs. All seven of these lines were produced from end-of-line fabrics that we saved from being send to landfill. By rescuing these materials, Guards London transformed them into fashionable, limited-edition pieces, effectively giving them a new lease on life.

The Guards Limited Collection exemplified our dedication to tackling the issue of textile waste. By repurposing existing fabrics, we can not only reduced their environmental impact but also fostered a culture of resourcefulness and creativity within the fashion industry.

 Autumn-Winter 2022: A Milestone Achievement

Just this past Autumn-Winter 2022, Guards London achieved a significant milestone by releasing the Ufton Gilet and Evering Packaway Jacket. These two garments represent our first foray into utilizing 100% recycled polyester. By embracing this new milestone, we learnt from and built upon our first steps back in 2020 and the beginning of our pursuit for eco-friendly fashion. These pieces not only provide warmth and protection from the elements but also serve as a testament to the possibilities that exist when fashion and sustainability intersect.

Leading the Charge for Sustainable Fashion

Guards London aims to be a frontrunner in the fashion industry’s movement towards sustainability. Through our continuous commitment to utilizing recycled materials and waste fabrics, we aim to transform the perception of eco-friendly fashion, proving that style and sustainability can coexist harmoniously.

From our pioneering clothing lines released in Spring 2020, made from partially recycled materials, to the Guards Limited Collection in Spring 2022, which repurposed end-of-line fabrics, and finally, the  Autumn-Winter 2022 collection featuring 100% recycled materials, Guards London tries to build on what we learn year-on-year to bring you stylish yet sustainable fashion choices.

Now this Autumn 2023, we are partnering with Preworn to bring a new way to help cut down our environmental impact. We are one of the first partners in their retail takeback scheme, in which you can donate your unwanted old clothing in exchange for discounts at our website. What’s more, you will be able to purchase second-hand Guards London garments at a fraction of their original price through Preworn’s own online store.
